Our live walking tour of Marrakech continues in Part 2, taking Azdean and Youssef through the historic Medina, Madrasa and Majorelle Garden.

Exploring Marrakech: The Medina, Madrasa and Majorelle Garden

We start our journey with a visit to the Medina of Marrakech. Dating back to the 11th century, the Medina is a bustling old city that has been the center of trade and life for centuries. Our local expert, Youssef, walks us through the narrow streets, introducing us to the many mosques that dot the landscape. These sacred spaces, used for daily prayers, stand as testaments to the deep-rooted Islamic culture of the city.

Just as intriguing are the Koranic schools. Here, children learn about their faith from a young age, starting a lifelong journey of religious education. One such institution of learning that we delve into is Madrasa Ben Yusuf, the 16th-century Islamic University. With its unique admission process and commitment to enlightening the brightest minds of the Muslim faith, the Madrasa provides a fascinating glimpse into the world of Islamic academia.

The tranquil beauty of the Majorelle Gardens offers a respite from the bustle of city life. Designed by French painter Jacques Majorelle, these gardens are a lush oasis that plays host to 350 species of plants from across the globe. It's not just the flora that makes this garden unique. The Majorelle Gardens are also closely connected with fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent, who found inspiration amidst its verdant paths.

Nestled within the gardens is the Pierre Berger Museum of Berber art, a treasure trove that showcases the rich artistic heritage of the Berber people. As we explore this museum, we learn more about the intricate art forms of the Berber community and how they are a reflection of their deep-rooted culture and traditions.

Our journey through Marrakech is more than just a sightseeing tour; it's an exploration of a city's soul. Each mosque, each Koranic school, each garden, tells a story of the people who have lived and continue to live in this vibrant city. These stories, steeped in history, faith, and culture, paint a vivid picture of Marrakech, making it come alive for us.

In the end, our journey through Marrakech serves as a reminder of the rich tapestry of human experience that every city offers. Whether it's the whispers of the past echoing through the halls of Madrasat Ben Yusuf or the serene beauty of the Majorelle Gardens, Marrakech invites us to delve deeper, explore further, and discover more. So, join us as we uncover the mysteries of Morocco, one podcast episode at a time.
