When you set foot in Morocco, you step into a world teeming with historical richness, diverse culture, and captivating landscapes.

In the fall of 2022, we had a special guest on the Destination Morocco podcast: Pablo Juarez, recently returned from a tour to Morocco with his partner, Harmony. They embarked on an enchanting journey from Ottawa, Canada, to see first-hand the marvels of Morocco. Through his riveting tales, listeners can explore Morocco's charm, its hidden wonders, and unique experiences.

Their journey started in Casablanca, where the grandeur of the Hassan II Mosque left them in awe. This stunning piece of architecture, which showcases intricate designs and the exquisite craftsmanship of Moroccan artisans, is one of the must-see landmarks of the country. They then started on a four-day desert tour from Fès to Marrakesh, where he got a taste of the vibrant local life.

Morocco offers a myriad of off-the-beaten-path experiences, and Pablo's adventure was no different. They visit a rug cooperative, which offered them an insight into local craftwork, while the taste of locally made beef jerky introduced them to Moroccan flavors. But the highlight was the experience of staying in Riads, traditional Moroccan homes turned hotels, where Pablo and Harmony got a taste of authentic Moroccan hospitality.

Morocco's night sky is a sight to behold, with the stars and the Milky Way putting up a mesmerizing show. Although a thunderstorm thwarted Pablo's plans of capturing this sight, it did not dampen his spirits. The atmospheric desert camp nights, coupled with the warmth of Moroccan hospitality, made for a memorable experience.

Driving through the winding roads of the High Atlas, Middle Atlas, and Anti Atlas Mountains from Fès to Merzouga was another unforgettable adventure for Pablo and Harmony. This hair-raising drive offered a blend of adrenaline and surprise, as they stumbled upon roadside discoveries like a stand selling fresh, local dates.

One of the intriguing aspects of travel is the conversations you engage in. They had the chance to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Aït Benhaddou, where they met a local woman baking traditional "Moroccan pizza". A friendly World Cup rivalry between Morocco and Canada added a fun twist to the journey.

Traveling to Morocco is more than just ticking off landmarks from a list. It's about immersing in the local culture, engaging in meaningful conversations, and uncovering hidden gems. As Pablo and Harmony's journey illustrates, Morocco is a destination that can surprise and captivate you at every turn.
